Ahuriri's inner harbour was Napier's port until the 1931 earthquake lifted the seabed, and the suburb still lives right beside the water. Cars parked along the quay and the waterfront streets take salt and sun together, the hardest combination there is on bare paint. A professionally applied ceramic coating protects the clear coat, helps it resist salt residue and UV, and keeps the gloss. Niah and Ben apply it by hand where you park.
With the inner harbour on one side, the estuary on the other and Napier Port just around the hill, salt is part of the air in Ahuriri. It dries on paint as a fine film, and the sun bakes it on. A professionally applied ceramic coating gives your paint a slick protective layer that helps it resist salt residue, so it is far easier to rinse off.
How Ahuriri Is Served
Niah and Ben come to you in Ahuriri, whether you live near West Quay, in a house by the estuary or work close to the port. They set up where the car is parked, and you hear back from Niah or Ben first to find a time that suits.
Harbour, Estuary And Port
Beach Grit From Westshore
Westshore beach is close by, and its grit comes back in shoes, towels and the boot. It works down into carpet and seat rails, where it needs more than a quick vacuum to shift.
Bird Life From The Estuary
The Ahuriri Estuary supports more than 70 species of water birds. Droppings are acidic, and baked on by summer sun they can mark clear coat if they are left for days.
Salt Film And Dry Wiping
Salt settles on paint most days here, so it is tempting to wipe it off. Dry wiping drags the crystals across the clear coat and leaves the fine swirls that polishing later has to remove.
